Taking a moment to celebrate the #littlevictories 🥰

I made a promise to myself that I wouldn’t obsess over numbers pertaining to me and my art. I don’t make music for the numbers. I make music to express myself and connect with people.

That being said, I do honor and celebrate what the numbers represent: the people who have connected with and been touched by music and message of the self-expression, self-awareness, power, joy, and magic of the Black girl ✨

My music has been available on iTunes/Apple Music since 2014 and I’ve never received more than 0-10 plays per week of any of my songs according to my weekly updates.

But THIS WEEK y’all!! This week I’ve had a record number of 586 plays of my songs on Apple Music!! 🤯💖 I also have 15 listeners on Spotify! For. The longest time I only had 3 😜

All of this just out of the blue!

And all I can say is thank you to all the beautiful people so far who have found and supported my music.

Today, my family is taking a moment to honor the life of my dad.

In some West African tribes it’s traditional to take this moment approximately 40 days after the death of your loved one.

It’s been 43 days.

It’s not easier. There’s just a little bit of distance now.

I took a moment outside by a memorial pear tree in my backyard (we planted it for my late aunt about 15 years ago) to just take in this moment of my life and how much of a whirlwind this year has been.

I’m grateful to be alive.
I’m grateful for my family.
I’m grateful that I smile like my dad. 💖

Lately this has become my happy place after work. My bed. A candle. My guitar. And a place to write down all of my thoughts.

My mind has been heavy. So it’s nice to have a way to get the words out. Even if I just end up writing nonsense for an hour. It’s nice 💖 (at In My Head…)
